An outstanding second half performance was not enough for Darlaston to earn a point

An outstanding second half performance was not enough for Darlaston to earn a point

Simon Cox18 Nov - 16:22

Yesterday was a definite game of two halves, Chasetown taking advantage of two errors, Darlaston just could not force an equaliser in the second half

Despite the horrendous weather conditions over the previous 48 hours, the Scholars Ground and pitch was an absolute picture and a credit to everyone at Chasetown FC.

Chasetown held their annual tribute in honour of Remembrance Day which included an address from a local Minister as well as a single bugler playing “The Last Post”. An impeccable minutes silence followed was observed before the game.

A crowd of 695 witnessed an excellent game where Chasetown had the better of the first half opening up a two goal lead following two defensive mistakes. Darlaston rallying in the second half and coming close to grabbing a point, which on the balance of play would have been a fair result.

Ty Webster and Jack Langston both had early half chances for the home side without troubling Darlaston keeper Stan Amos. The home side had the better of the exchanges, the visitors growing into the game with Tyler Bruck impressing following his return on loan from Redditch United.

Play and possession was fairly even before some poor defending allowed Chasetown to take the lead on 27 minutes. With the ball bobbling about in and close to the Darlaston penalty area, the visitors had several chances to clear the ball, failing to do so, eventually Jack Langston pouncing on a loose ball to hook home beyond keeper Amos from 12 yards.

Five minutes later, Chasetown doubled their lead, an unmarked Joey Butlin glancing home a header from a corner.

Chasetown had the better of the first half possession, Darlaston paid dearly for two defensive errors, going into the break with a two goal deficit.

The second half was an evenly contested affair, Darlaston having the edge but finding it difficult to break down a well organised Chasetown defence.

Bruck's 20-yard effort was on target before, taking a deflection for a corner. which came to nothing.

Darlaston came within a whisker of clawing their way back into the game. A Lewis Gill free kick from wide right evading everyone before going inches wide with keeper Curtis Pond stranded.

A Darlaston goal eventually came on 64 minutes. Substitutes Jack Downing and Harry Chesterton combining down the right, Downing's cross guided home by Bruck with a flick after the ball had passed him from 6 yards out.

The remainder of the half was an evenly contested affair, both sides playing neat, controlled football without creating any significant clear chances, Chasetown were superbly organised seeing out the final quarter professionally to ensure they kept the points. The win sees Chasetown maintain their position near the top half table just one point off a play-off spot.

Next up for Darlaston is the visit of the leagues best supported club on Wednesday evening. For the first time we will welcome ex-football league side Bury to the Paycare Stadium.

Kick off 7.45 pm.

A large crowd is expected so could we ask all Darlaston supporters to arrive earlier than normal to take advantage of an open bar that will be serving hot and cold food all evening.

We desperately need a big Darlaston turnout, to support the lads in yet another massive league fixture.
