Tomorrow evening Darlaston returns to Midland Football League action under lights at the Paycare Ground when they welcome Wolverhampton Sporting Community.

Wolves Sporting are no strangers, they were also moved laterally by the FA in the National League restructuring completed in May.

The clubs have met on two previous it sounds like a long time ago now but following Darlaston’s promotion to the Premier Division of the West Midlands (Regional) League the clubs met at the Paycare Stadium in January 2020 playing out an exciting 3-3 draw Despite Darlaston going ahead in the 18th minute, Darlaston found themselves 3-1 down after 63 minutes. Late goals from club top scorer Leon Taylor and an 87th minute equaliser from Zico Agyemang gave Darlaston a share of the points.

Last season the clubs met in October last year, this time at Wolves Sporting’s Pride Park home, where Darlaston were given a lesson in finishing by five different scorers and losing 5-0 convincingly

Both clubs are now in very different places, with new squads to start the new season, Sporting’s manager Francino Francis has recruited well, his squad has ex-Darlaston players Adam Skeldon, Adonijah Allen, Connor Hopkins, and Josh Watters along with several other new faces Both Remi & Chad Birch along with talented young keeper Callum Smith have moved to pastures new.

In their first game in the Midlands Football League last Saturday, they welcomed Nuneaton Griff to their Pride Park ground but ended up on the end of a 3-1 loss to one of the teams that are expected to do well this season.

Wolves Sporting teams are always well-organised and hardworking so tomorrow night's game will be a stern test as always for Dean Gill’s squad.

Following Saturday's opening 4-0 win, once again Darlaston will have a fully fit squad available with the exception of long-term absentee Matt Pinder who is recovering well from his recent knee surgery, he will be back hopefully in the New Year if his rehab continues to go well. I am sure everyone’s best wishes go to him, and it will be really good to see him at a game real; soon.

When asked about tomorrow night's game manager Dean Gill said "Our one and only aim is to perform consistently game in game out, our pre-game work on and off the pitch has gone well so we have very high expectations of another good performance tomorrow evening".

So, with no other local games on Wednesday evening why not come and visit the Paycare Stadium, kick-off is 7.45 pm, gates open at 6.30 pm entrance is £5 Adults, £3 Concessions, and children under 10 free.

The bar will be open serving its usual hot and cold food including the “World’s best Cobs”.
