Its another big game for Darlaston Town tomorrow at The Paycare Stadium, when current league leaders Lower Breck travel from Merseyside for a 3.00 p.m. kick-off.
Lower Breck, like Darlaston Town, are new to the league this season after earning promotion the hard way by winning the end of season play-ffs after finishing runners up to Bury.
Darlaston visited Lower Breck at the beginning of October holding the then, also league leaders, to a 1-1 draw. Lower Breck took the lead after five minutes, Callum Knowles scored his first goal for the club in the 31st minute to earn the draw.
Since the clubs met Lower Breck, in a twelve game run cementing their place at the head of the league table losing a single home game against promotion chasing Avro.
From the Christmas period Lower Breck’s form has suffered and in their last five fixtures they have won two, drawn one and lost the last two fixtures. The wins game against local rivals away at Vauxhall Motors on Boxing Day (3-2) and a 3-1 away win over promotion chasing Avro who at the time were second in the table. The draw came against local rivals Bootle over the New Year.
Lower Breck’s last two fixtures have ended in defeat. A 2-1 home defeat to Chasetown last Saturday, Luke Yates scoring the winner in the 87th minute after Lower Breck’s Sam Burns had equalised in the 86th, this after Chasetown had had Tye Webster sent off in the 41st minute. In midweek Lower Breck travelled to rejuvenated Runcorn Linnets losing 4-2 with Lower Breck being 2-1 up at half-time with goals from Buckley and Burns.
Lower Breck have three players who have scored more than ten goals this season, Lewis Buckley heads the charts with 15, Sam Burns closely follows with 14 and Alex Cherera with 12. All three will need to be watched carefully tomorrow.
Darlaston meanwhile, after suffering a 1-0 loss to Congleton Town last Saturday, which is a blow in the clubs fight against relegation, the whole squad travelled to Step 3 side Redditch United for a friendly on Monday evening which proved very eventful and very helpful to the players and management team which ended in a 1-1 draw.
As always the players have worked and trained hard all week and the management team have been trying to add to the squad and are hopeful that there may be some new additions before todays’ 5.00 p.m. deadline.
