Tomorrow’s Boxing Day local derby is the game, both sets of supporters have been looking forward too, since the fixtures were announced in July. Once again Darlaston Town will travel just 3 miles up the Black Country Route to play Sporting Khalsa at The Guardian Warehouse Arena
Tomorrow’s game is so important to both clubs given their recent form and current positions in The Northern Premier League West Division league table. Sporting Khalsa are 18th having won and drawn 5 league games and have lost 13, whereas Darlaston are currently 21st, having played one game less winning 4 drawing five and lost 13, so the clubs are separated by 3 points.
Going into the fixture, recent form is the same, both clubs having lost three, and won and drawn single games in their last five fixtures. Khalsa’s win came at home against promotion chasing Runcorn Linnets (3-1) and the drawn also at the Guardian Warehouse Arena against Witton Albion (2-2). Losses were against Atherton Collieries (1-0), Mossley (2-1) and last Saturday Congleton Town (1-0)
Both clubs have had to rebuild their playing personnel in the summer after the FA moved them from the NPL Midlands Division into the much harder West Division. This has put tremendous pressure on both Dean Gill and Ian Rowe, along with their respective management teams to rebuild their squads which takes time and patience, this is clearly evident in both team’s positions in the table. Last season in The Midlands Division both were pushing for promotion into Step 3 and finished in the top seven of the league table.
Sporting Khalsa have a very dangerous front line which includes Andre Landell and Chay Tilt who have scored against The Citizens last season, but manager Rowe has also added Luke Shearer and Sam Fitzgerald both are in the goals this season.
Looking at the form of both clubs’ tomorrow promises a tight affair as they usually are in this big local derby, rest assured both clubs will desperately want the win 3points, Sporting Khalsa to increase the gap and climb the table, whereas Darlaston will want to climb the table.
