Tomorrow Darlaston Town will play one of their most important games this season, if not the most important game, when they welcome Trafford to the Paycare Stadium.
Both teams are situated at the bottom of the Northern Premier League West Division, with Trafford two points behind tomorrow’s hosts, having played a game more.
Since the teams met on the opening day of the league season at Trafford when Darlaston won 2-1 thanks to two Harry Chesterton goals, after going behind in the first minute, the clubs have gone down different paths. Whilst Darlaston have built a squad over the season and retained the majority of their management team, Trafford parted ways with the manager of two years Karl Margonson at the end of November. The same day they appointed Tom Baker as manager, who returned to the club after previously managing for a 5 year period pre-COVID. His tenure was very successful winning the Northern Premier League, League Cup in 2019 and secured a top five finish 2018 to secure a play-off place.
Since his appointment Baker has added several new players to Trafford’s squad along with appointing key members of his management team. Since his appointment there has an upturn in results and out of their 22 games so far this season Trafford have won 2, drawn 6 and lost 14 securing 12 points.
Trafford’s last six fixtures have seen their results improve from the first two months of the season securing 6 points. Three of them came with a with a great 4-3 win at Stafford Rangers followed by their last three fixtures which have all ended in draws two ate home against Congleton Town (1-1) and Whitton Albion (0-0). Last Saturday on the road they drew 1-1 at Chasetown, Trafford took the lead early on, and The Scholars equalised before half-time.
Tomorrow is a huge day for both clubs and Darlaston, after the midweek game against Avro on Wednesday go into tomorrow fully rested. The squad have trained well and are in very good spirits along with the management team and despite the results not going the clubs way, or even what they have deserved from games, the outlook and spirit within the camp is so positive.
Tomorrow the turnstiles will open as usual tomorrow at 1.00 p.m.
Admission:
Adults £10.00, Concessions £8.00, U18’s £4.00 and U10’s Free
Programmes: £2.00 – Cash & Card payments accepted on the gate.
The bar will open at 1 p.m. serving its usual pre-match hot and cold menu, all available in the back room.
It is hoped that the local community of Bentley and Darlaston, together with the club’s support base, come and support the team in what is one of the most important games this season.
We hope to see a large, vocal, Darlaston crowd at the Paycare Stadium tomorrow afternoon
