Darlaston return to the M6 to travel North, tomorrow, this week for an important league fixture at Wythenshawe Town, who like us were promoted into Step 4 for the first time at the beginning of last season.
North Withington were formed at the start of the 1982/83 season and joined The Manchester Premier Division. At the beginning of the 1987/88 season the club changed their name to Wythenshawe Town and continuing to play in the Manchester League until the FA reformed the national non-league leagues creating a pyramid creating promotions and relegations from newly created levels. Wythenshawe Town were put into the new Cheshire League Division Two at Step 8.
Following the reorganisation The Ammies were promoted as champions for two consecutive seasons into Step 6 in the North West Counties League Division One South at the beginning of the 2018/19 season.
Following the two abandoned seasons due to COVID, in 2021/22 Wythenshawe Town were promoted by the FA were moved into The North West Counties Premier Division Three seasons later then won the playoffs after finishing runners up to rise into The Northern Premier Legue West Division at the same time as Darlaston Town were promoted into the Midland’s Division of the NPL after their play-off win.
Their first season at step 4 saw the club finish in 19th place out of 22 teams earning a reprieve from relegation from the FA, in their forty-two game season they won eleven, drew thirteen and lost eighteen.
Currently The Ammies, are one place below Darlaston in the league table in 21st position after nineteen games and they have won three, drawn four and lost twelve, securing 13 points the same as Darlaston.
Their recent form has produced a single win in the last six games and five losses. The win came at Ericstan Park when they beat Witton Albion 2-1. The remaining five games which they lost, two were away from home at Congleton Town (4-0) and Stalybridge Celtic (4-1). Homes losses against league leaders Lower Brek (2-0), Clithero (2-0), Runcorn Linnets (2-1) make up the six game run.
Darlaston meanwhile will go into tomorrow’s game in similar form having been narrowly beaten in their last two league games by the same score-line, 2-1 at Chasetown last Saturday and suffered a 2-1 reverse at The Paycare Stadium against Bury in front of big crowd on Wednesday evening.
The Citizens, despite their current form, will go into tomorrow’s fixture looking for a result and to be positive as the game has been identified as one of the key fixtures this season.
