Tomorrow afternoon at The Paycare Stadium, Darlaston Town welcome another club for the first time in Nantwich Town.
Nantwich Town are another club much the same as ourselves with a long history dating back into the 1800’s when they played under the name of Nantwich until changing names in at the end of the 1973/74 season to Nantwich Town.
Since the name change, the Dabbers has flourished rising from Step 7 to Step 3 in The Northern Premier League Premier Division where they played their football from 2008/09 season until suffering relegation in 2022/23 season.
Since returning to the Northern Premier League Division One the club has finished mid-table in 10th position in their first season and last season in 8th, just outside the play-offs.
This season, The Dabbers, are currently in 10th position having played 13 games, winning 7, drawing 1 and losing 5 with 22 points earned.
October was a busy month playing seven league games, winning five and losing two with wins over Congleton Town (2-0), Chasetown (3-0), Clitheroe (3-2) all at home and an two 1-0 away wins at Trafford and Vauxhall Motors bought the five wins in the month, but losses at Atherton Collieries (2-0) and Newcastle (3-0) meant The Dabbers return in October was not as good as they may have expected.
Last Saturday The Dabbers lost 4-1 to current league leader Lower Breck. In midweek Nantwich were due to play at Stalybridge Celtic but the game was postponed due to a water logged pitch.
Top scorers for The Dabbers are Alex Panter with 8 goals so far this season, four in the league and four in the cups and Byron Harrison just one behind with 7 four in the league and three in the cups.
Darlaston meanwhile after suffering a 4-1 loss at Runcorn Linnets last Saturday have once again been put through a tuff weeks training preparing for tomorrow’s game and the squad will be buoyed with the addition of the returning Keiran Cooke who will hopefully be available for tomorrow’s fixture, whereas skipper Alex Foreshaw will miss tomorrow’s game as he serves his final game of his three match suspension for his recent sending off.
We hope everybody will come and support Darlaston tomorrow and also take in a free performance from the wonderful Philip B who will be performing an acoustic set after tomorrow’s game in the LT9 Bar, starting at 6.00 p.m.
