Darlaston welcome Clitheroe for the first time to the Paycare Stadium tomorrow afternoon for the first of three consecutive home games for Darlaston Town.
Tomorrow’s opponents are currently 15th in the West Division having played 10 league games, winning four, drawing one and losing five. Clitheroe’s wins came at Shifnal Town (1-0) a 2-0 over bottom club Trafford at home both in August and in September a 1-0 home win against Newcastle Town followed by a win at Bootle by the same scoreline. The Blues were knocked out of the Emirates F.A. cup on the opening day of the season by Runcorn Linnets, but they still remain in the Isuzu FA Trophy and will play Stockton in the First Round proper next Saturday.
For over 20 years Clitheroe have played their football in The Northern Premier League Division One or West Division, since being promoted as Champions of the North West Counties League at the end of the 2003/04 season, in the past 20 plus years the Blues have only finished outside the top 10 on seven occasions.
Recent Clitheroe form, apart from the Isuzu FA Trophy where the beat Ashton United 2-1 away from home, has seen them lose all of their league fixtures so far this month, and Darlaston supporters should only know too well that current form means nothing, and everybody is capable of getting a result in this highly competitive West Division.
Darlaston go into the fixture on the back of two draws against Kidsgrove Athletic and Lower Breck last Saturday, but also a 2-0 loss at Newcastle Town in mid-week. Manager Dean Gill has injuries to his squad and several important squad members will face fitness tests before tomorrow’s fixture.
