After a hard earned point on Wednesday evening against a really good Kidsgrove Athletic on Wednesday evening, Dean Gill and his squad face another long trip up the M6 tomorrow travelling to Liverpool to face third placed Lower Breck, who after eight games this season have won six, drawn and lost one, they trail the league leaders Chasetown by a point, with a game in hand.
Lower Breck, like Darlaston, are new to the Northern Premier League West Division, this season, having earned promotion last yea from the North West Counties League. Lower Breck have only been in existence since 2013 and played in the Liverpool County Premier League where they remained until 2017/18 when they were promoted as Champions into Division One of the North West Counties League. Having spent three seasons prior to the FA’s reorganisation of the non-league pyramid following COVID, Lower Breck were promoted out of the North West Counties Division One North into the Premier Division.
Last season they finished runners up earning promotion through the play-offs into the Northern Premier League West Division, where they have started extremely well, beating some big names in the early weeks of the season
Lower Breck started the season in outstanding form, remaining unbeaten in the league in August winning five games and the best win was 5-2 at Atherton Collieries, their only blemish was the 2-2 draw at home to Kidsgrove who Darlaston drew with on Wednesday evening.
September saw Lower Breck lose their first game of the season away at current league leaders Chasetown, which was their last league fixture on 27th September. Also, in September they beat Stalybridge Celtic 3-0 at Stalybridge along with away wins at Clithero (3-2) and Pontefract Collieries (2-0).
Top scorers for Lower Breck are Alex Cherera with eight goals in eleven starts, followed by Sam Burns, fellow midfield player, with five from eleven starts equalled by forward Lewis Buckley.
Clearly Darlaston face a huge test on Saturday and manager Dean Gill and his management team will have ensured that the squad is prepared in the best way possible for yet another important game.
