Tomorrow evening Darlaston Town return to the Paycare Stadium for the clubs first home league game of the season against Stafford Rangers.
Going into tomorrow’s fixture Stafford Rangers have lost both of their opening games of the season, both played at home in The Stan Robinson Stadium, firstly in the Emirates FA Cup against Lutterworth Town who scored in the 88th minute after Stafford’s Alex Worley had been sent off.
Last Saturday the opening day of The Northern Premier League season, Rangers were at home again, playing Avro, a goal in each half inflicted Stafford’s second consecutive loss of the season. Meanwhile Darlaston lost 2-1 at Pershore Town, losing out to a 95th minute winner, and last Saturday The Citizens won at Trafford 2-1 after conceding in the first minute. Harry Chesterton secured the points with two sublime first half finishes.
Following relegation from The Northern Premier League Premier Division at the end of the 2023/24 season, at the start of last season the club and its supporters would have been hopeful of a good season and a quick return to the Premier Division. But it did not materialise, and Rangers found themselves in the relegation places for much of the first three or four months of the season.
In January this year the club announced the return of Manager Neil Kitching and his Assistant Nick Amos who had secured promotion as champions from The Evo-Stik First Division South in the 2014/15 season and also won the Staffordshire Senior Cup in his four year term .Following his appointment Kitching was quoted as saying “This is our football club and feels like it always has been. We are thrilled and excited to accept the challenge. We have unfinished business at the club and still have the fight, desire, and passion”.
The new management team secured the clubs Steo 4 status with key wins and draws making sure the club finished mid-table. During the summer Kitching and his management team have been able to build a powerful squad containing plenty of experience and players have been successful at higher levels, so there is much promise of success this season.
Meanwhile Darlaston Boyd by Saturday’s excellent 2-1e win at Trafford, Darlaston’s manager well go into the fixture with the same squad and they will look to reproduce Saturdays form in the hope they can get something from tomorrow’s game because as the club knows games against Kitches teams are always nip & tuck with one team winning by the odd goal.
