Tomorrow, Darlaston Town return to the road for their longest trip of the season into Lincolnshire to play Grantham Town. The clubs met for the first time at The Paycare Stadium in early September, The Citizen’s taking the points thanks to a James Rowland goal
The Gingerbread’s have had a difficult season the majority of which they have been in the bottom third of the league, going into tomorrow’s game of their 37 games played they have won 2, drawn 11 and lost 24 and accumulating 17 points. Grantham were relegated after their defeat by Wellingborough Town earlier this month, and this week manager Nathan Round resigned.
Grantham Towns recent form has produced one draw and five losses in the last six games. The draw was at Rugby Town in a key game, Grantham suffered heartbreak in the 88th minute Trey Charles scoring for Rugby after Lewis Darlington had scored for the Gingerbread’s.
Since earning the point at Rugby Town Grantham Town go into tomorrow’s game on a five-game losing streak losing at two games their South Kesteven Sports Stadium home
e to Hinckley LR 1-0 another late goal in the 87th minute by Hinckley earned the three points and a 3-1 defeat against Wellingborough Town.
On the road 2-1 loss at Coventry Sphinx another late winner was again the Gingerbreads downfall, this time four minutes into injury time. Sutton Coldfield Town inflicted a 4-2 defeat on Grantham who raced into a 2-0 lead in the first 25 minutes of the game. Last Saturday at second placed Corby Town the Grantham lost 4-0.
Grantham Town in three of the their last six games have conceded in the last minutes of games, so any Darlaston supporters so not expect anything different to any other game this season, where the team will need to be at their best to have any chance of getting anything from tomorrow’s game, especially following the appointment of First Team Coach and Academy Manager Tom Ford for the clubs remaining three games of the season.
Darlaston Town’s squad have trained twice this week in preparation for tomorrow’s game and following last Saturdays defeat against Coventry Sphinx when the clubs play-off hopes ended Darlaston‘s players still have plenty to play for, a huge derby on Monday against Sporting Khalsa and a starting shirt in the Walsall Senior Cup Final on 13th May at The Poundland Stadium
