Match Preview

Simon Cox31 Mar - 20:23

It looks like finally Darlaston Town will travel to Mark’s Electrical Arena, the home of Anstey Nomads. Tomorrow evening will be the third time the fixture has been scheduled, the previous two were postponed due to frozen and waterlogged pitches.

Last season’s league runners up who lost out to Harborough Town in the play-off final are sure to be wanting to go one better this season want to go one better by achieving promotion into Step 3

As like many teams pushing for the play-off places they are coming into form at the business end of the season, winning four of their last 6 games, losing and drawing a single game.

The teams met at The Paycare Stadium at the end of January, Anstey won 4-2, Darlaston’s Ben Podmore was sent off after the final whistle. Anstey raced into a three goal first half lead, but two goals in a minute from Leo Wood and Kieran Cook gave Darlaston a sniff of getting something from the game, their hopes were dashed by substitute Zyan Hakeem who scored The Nomad’s fourth goal just three minutes later.

Wins away at Bedworth United (4-2), Loughborough Students (3-0), and last Saturday Coleshill Town (2-1) along with a home over Worcester City (2-1) have helped open a six-point gap over Darlaston Town, A 1-1 draw in midweek at home to Shepshed Dynamo, along with a big 5-0 loss to the leagues form team Long Eaton United.

The Nomads also suffered an abandoned game a week last Saturday in a vital fixture for both Anstey and Sporting Khalsa due to a waterlogged pitch, Khalsa were 1-0 up.

After Darlaston’s slim play-offs were extinguished by League Champions Quorn on Saturday, The Citizens still have lots to play for, they have games against teams at the top and bottom of the table and manager Dean Gill will want to ensure the best possible finish for his team, their first at Step 4
