Tomorrow afternoon, Darlaston welcome second place and title chasing Lichfield City to their Paycare Stadium for a 2nd versus 4th clash. Lichfield come looking to continue their excellent recent run of results, having won five of their last six games and will want to keep the pressure on current leaders Congleton Town, whereas Darlaston will want to keep their push for a play-off place continue..

This season has been very successful for Lichfield City, both their homeand away from has been impressive allowing them to challenge for the League title. Of their fifteen away games this season, Lichfield have won nine, drawn three and lost three.

Lichfield’s last six games started with a 2-1 defeat at league leaders Congleton Town in a huge game, followed by a 4-0 demolition of Atherstone Town at their Trade Tyre Community Stadium. A run of three away fixtures followed the beat Wolverhampton Casuals 2-1, Tividale 3-1 and AFC Wulfrunians on Easter Saturday 2-0.

On Easter Bank Holiday Monday in form Dudley Town travelled to Lichfield and took the lead just before half time. Lichfield left it late substitute Jude Taylor equalised in the 88th minute to share the points with Dudley Town and dent City’s hopes of lifting the title after Congleton beat Northwich Victoria 10-0 on Wednesday evening.

Lichfield have clearly had a successful season in front of goal, the leagues current top scorer Dan Smith scoring 33 times along with his team mates Jack Edwards on 18, Liam Kirton 15 and Dan Lomas 15, all of the players are within the League’s top 15 goal scorers.

Darlaston have had an outstanding eight days, securing three key wins, two against play-off rivals Stourport Swifts and will go into tomorrow’s game also in good form. But Lichfield have rested since their game on Bank Holiday Monday and will certainly have an advantage over tomorrow’s hosts.

It is a huge game for both clubs. Lichfield clearly need to win to keep pressure on League leaders Congleton, whereas Darlaston also need to win to keep up their play-off push and to retain their fourth place in the League. So tomorrow promises to be a very interesting game.
