Darlaston tomorrow will travel to their first of three consecutive away games when they travel to play Market Drayton Town.
This is Market Drayton Town’s first season in the Midland Football League Premier Division after being relegated from the Northern Premier League Midlands Division and they would not have expected to find themselves at the bottom of the table, especially after winning their first two games of the season.
The season started with a 2-1 win at home against Shifnal Town in the Emirates FA Cup followed by a 1-0 win at Worcester City. Since those early games back in August, Market Drayton Town have not won or drawn any game and are firmly rooted to the bottom of the Division with a return of 3 points from 26 games and a goal difference of -46.
When Market Drayton visited The Paycare Stadium in early January, Darlaston were tested to the full and took the points thanks to a late Rivel Mardenborough strike. Days before the fixture Drayton had appointed their new manager Adam Shillcock along with his management team. Adam has a fine record and has built a good reputation and his appointment certainly had a reaction in his first game in charge, and since then with a steady recruitment process Market Drayton’s performances have improved coming close in recent games, and there will be a time that Market Drayton will end their long run without a point, let’s hope it’s not tomorrow.
Since visiting Darlaston, Market Drayton have lost 2-0 at home to Worcester City in a mid-week fixture and were beaten 1-0 at nearby Stone Old Alleyians, followed by a last minute 3-2 defeat away at Bewdley Town.
Last weekend saw Romulus travel to Greenfields Sports Ground and return back to Birmingham with a 3-1 win. Drayton this week have been active in the transfer market with Harlon Rogers-Morris a young energetic midfielder who has signed from Altrincham.
Dean Gill and his squad will look to continue their long unbeaten run tomorrow buoyed by two wins last week, both at The Paycare Stadium, a 2-1 win against Whitchurch Alport followed by a 2-0 win against Stourport Swifts, both of them due to exceptional team performances.
This week the team have trained well and hard and are looking forward to tomorrow’s game. There are no injury concerns within the squad, although there are some availability issues and at the time of writing this article we are unsure what players are to be affected.
