As Darlaston look to start the last eight days of their first season in the Midland Football League Premier Division playing at the highest level in the club's 149-year history, tomorrow sees they end their away fixtures with a trip to Lichfield City.
The clubs have already met twice this season, once in the league with Darlaston winning 4-2 at The Paycare Stadium in October and in the JW Hunt Cup under lights in January Lichfield ran out comfortable winners 4-0 to progress into the third round.
Lichfield are currently just behind Dean Gill’s side in the league in 9th place, Darlaston after their run of recent defeats have seen them drop from second in the table to 8th, but there is a nine-point gap between the two teams so Lichfield cannot finish any higher than their current position.
Tomorrow’s opponents have played thirty six league games, which has seen them win fourteen, draw eleven and lose eleven with a goal difference of six. In their last six games, Lichfield have won two, drawn one and lost three. Their run of 6 games started with a visit to second-played Lye Town, Lichfield lost 3-1 with ex-Chasetown forward Liam Kirton scoring their only goal. A trip to Uttoxeter Town followed a close game saw a Lichfield win 3-2 at the Oldfields Sports Ground, Max Dixon, Matt Funge and Kyle Patterson securing the all-important goals.
Another away match followed, another trip into Shropshire this time to Whitchurch Alport, this time the home team winning 1-0. A return to the Trade Tyre Community Stadium was next to face rivals Atherstone Town in another close game this time Lichfield secured a 2-1 win with goals once again from Max Dixon and Kyle Patterson. A trip to league leaders Walsall Wood followed last Saturday another close game which ended in a 1-1 draw, Liam Kirton scoring for Lichfield. Last Monday yet another trip to Shropshire saw a 1-0 loss to bottom club Market Drayton who secured only their third win of the season.
Ivor Green’s side will be looking to finish the season off with a win at their Trade Tyre Community Stadium, whereas Darlaston will be looking to end their run of successive defeats.
Manager Dean Gill reports a fully fit squad for tomorrow’s fixture and the management team and players are sure to be looking to put an end to their recent run of results, which suggests the teams form is poor, that cannot be further from the truth, they are playing well but have been unlucky at key times in recent weeks. Despite the recent run of results the squad are in good spirits and will look to return to winning ways starting tomorrow which will definitely not be an easy fixture to win, Lichfield are an excellent footballing side, especially on their 4g surface.
Tomorrow’s game is being played at Lichfield City’s kicking off at 3.00 p.m. The ground address is:

We look forward to seeing as many Darlaston supporters as possible at tomorrow’s game because it is the final away game of the season.
