Match Preview

Simon Cox27 Dec 2022 - 10:20

Dean Gill and his squad are looking forward to traveling across Wolverhampton to Castlecroft Stadium to play AFC Wulfrunians. Please note the game kicks off early at 2 pm.

Both Darlaston Town 1874, and AFC Wulfrunians, go into tomorrow’s fixture playing one League game in the last five weeks, both however have played a cup game during that period, so both camps some people would say will be going undercooked going into this important Midland Football League Premier Division fixture.

After a fantastic start to the season ensuring they occupied second position for the large proportion of the opening 3 months of the season, AFC Wulfrunians form has dipped seeing them drop down the league table to ninth position playing 19 game is the same as Darlaston winning 10, losing 8 and a solitary draw securing a goal difference of 5 and 31 points, two points behind Darlaston.

In the last six league games, AFC have won two a 0-1 win at Stourport Swifts and a 2-1 win at Castlecroft Stadium, against Whitchurch Alport. The remaining four games have been lost, 3-0 at Uttoxeter Town, a loss at home against Lye Town by the same scoreline. This was followed by a second home loss against newly promoted Atherstone Town 2-0. The last two losses have been both away from home firstly a 4-0 reverse at Lichfield City followed by a 6-3 defeat at Racing Club Warwick on 3G pitches. The last loss took place during the final weekend of November.

However, in cup competitions, IFC are having a good season, beating local rivals Brockton three nil in the Third Round of the Isuzu FA Vase giving them a Fourth Round home tie at Castlecroft against Anstey Nomads, the game is due to be played on 14th January.

AFC Wulfrunians clear dangerman is Aaron Bishop who is scored 11 followed by Jumaane Meggoe and Hayden Reeves who are both scored 4 so far this season. Recent signing Jacob Gwilt from Wolverhampton Sporting has scored 2 in 2 starts and is sure to pose a threat in front of goal.

Darlaston meanwhile have been training regularly throughout their enforced break and should be well rested and ready for tomorrow’s fixture. Availability should not be an issue and players will have recovered from illness along with the knocks, strains, and injuries they have been suffering. Therefore, it is expected that a full squad is available for selection with the exception of Jake Pearson, who is serving a one-game suspension.
