Tomorrow, Darlaston Town welcome Uttoxeter Town to The Paycare Stadium for the return fixture for Darlaston’s opening league fixture of the season which saw Darlaston run our 4-0 winners, the first game at Step 5 or equivalent, in the clubs long history. A Kieron Miller brace, as well as goals from Dominic Dell and Revel Mardenborough secured the win.
Tomorrow will also see another first where on the gate, it is “Pay as you Want” Saturday for as little as 1p or an unlimited amount for any spectators that visit the Paycare Stadium to watch tomorrows Midlands Football League Premier Division game.
After finishing 16th last season, their first ever at Step 5 Uttoxeter I am sure would have expected to push on up the league this season, and some my argue things have not quite gone to plan as tomorrow’s opponents are currently in 19th place having played 16 games, won 2, drawn 3 and lost 11 and with a goal difference of -19, two points away from Wolverhampton Casuals above them who are in a position of safety.
In their last 6 games, including league and cup fixtures, Uttoxeter have lost five and won once. In the middle of October, they welcomed AFC Wulfrunians who were at the time were in second place to their Oldfields Sports Ground and won 3-0 with Daniel Harper, Paul Hughes and Thomas Thornley all scoring. The following midweek Racing Club Warwick had an awful journey to Uttoxeter, but the trip proved worthwhile by a 2-1 win for the visitors.
The following Saturday a trip to Whitchurch Allport proved unsuccessful with a 3-0 reverse and in the League Cup the following mid-week Uttoxeter Town travelled to Division One high flyers Ashby Ivanhoe and were well beaten 3-0 by the promotion chasing Division One side.
Uttoxeter returned to league action at The Oldfields Sports Ground against Romulus, but the visitors secured a 3-1 win after the scores were level at half-time 1-1, Uttoxeter had Julius Ndene sent off in the 78th minute.
Uttoxeter’s last league game on bonfire night 5th November produced a 3-0 loss at fellow Staffordshire side Stone Old Alleynians.
Despite their current position in the league table, Uttoxeter Town have already proved this season that every team in the Division is capable of beating their opponents on any given day with their recent 3-0 win against second placed AFC Wulfrunians, therefore Dean Gill and his squad need to be at their best to get anything from tomorrow’s fixture.
Dean and his management team have been working hard to secure the services of two possible new signings in advance of tomorrows fixture and hopefully further news of the signings will be released prior to the game, if they were successful.
The squad, following last Saturdays 1-1 draw against Romulus have worked hard this week with two hard training sessions with a view managing knocks, injuries as well as players fitness after an extremely busy seven week period, playing twice weekly.
It is hoped that because there is no EFL & Premier League fixtures tomorrow, due to The World Cup, that a good crowd supports their new initiative and hopefully attracts new long term supporters to the club.
