Darlaston will look tomorrow evening to bring an end to the run of three consecutive losses when they travel to last season’s Division One Champions Atherstone Town.
Atherstone so far this season have a very similar record to Darlaston in the league and are lying one place below Darlaston in the league table having played a game more with a playingrecord of three wins two draws and four losses and have accrued a goal difference of +1. The Adders unlike Darlaston had a good run in the Emirates FA Cup Reaching the First Qualifying Round where they exited the competition losing to last season’s Midland Football League Premier League vision champions Hanley Town 4-1.
Atherstone’s league form in the last six games of the season has seen 3 wins, two loses and a draw one scoring eight goals but conceding seven which is unusual for Atherstone given their defensive records over recent seasons.
The Adders six game league run started on Bank Holiday Monday beating Highgate United 2-1 at the Mark Webster community Stadium. Then in mid-September they were beaten in a close game by league leaders Walsall Wood 3-2. Following that loss, the Adders exited the Emirates FA Cup exit at the hands of Hanley Town.
Atherstone returned to league action the following midweek beating Tividale at home 3-2. Stourport Swifts brought Atherstone’s long standing unbeaten league home record which was more than 18 games to an end with a 1-0 win. Atherstone travelled to newly promoted Studley who were Hellenic League Division One Champions last season, the game ended 0-0.
Last Saturday at the Mark Webster Community Stadium Atherstone beat Darlaston’s is FA Cup conquerors 1-0 at the Mark Webster Community Stadium.
Atherstone as always have several dangermen which as usual are led Mitch Piggon who leads the Adders scoring charts with 5 so far this season, along with Alex Naughton and Chris Cowley on 3 goals each closely followed Tom Smith, Josh Beeson and Ryan Quinn with 2 each.
As always Darlaston versus Atherstone town are close “nip and tuck” affairs and tomorrow evening is expected to be no different despite Darlaston coming into the fixture on three consecutive losses.
Darlaston meanwhile have no reports of any injuries after Saturday’s loss to Bewdley Town and Dean Gill and his squad will be looking to right the wrongs of recent fixtures and get back to winning ways as soon as possible.
We are hopeful many of Darlaston’s traveling supporters will travel the Atherstone tomorrow evening.
