Darlaston Town return to league action tomorrow evening away from for a huge 3rd vs 4th Midland Football League Premier Division game at Stourport Swifts, who last Saturday ended Atherstone’s long-time home unbeaten record stretching beyond the beginning of last season.
Swift’s are in fine form unbeaten in their last 7 games, drawing one and winning their last 5 games.
The run started fwith a 0-0 at Uttoxeter Town followed by on August Bank Holiday Monday a 2-1 win at Wolverhampton Casuals. Stourport Swifts exited this seasons Emirates FA Cup in the Second Qualifying Round after losing to fellow MFML Premier Division side Lichfield City. The first tie ended in a 2-2 draw, Swifts equalising in the 5th minute of extra time to force a reply at Walshes Meadow only to lose 1-0 the following Tuesday.
Stourport returned to league action the following Saturday and continued their 5 match winning run by beating Studley 2-1 at home, followed by two consecutive away wins, firstly a 4-1 win at bottom club Market Drayton followed by a 1-0 win against rivals Worcester City. As mentioned previously last Saturday they ended Atherstone’s long home unbeaten record with a 1-0 win, goal scored in 71st minute by Ben Tilbury.
Stourport’s danger man is clearly Lee Chiltern who has scored six goals in 12 games, followed by Ben Tilbury on three with Ronan Sheehan, Romario Martin and Jack Bailey who have all scored two goals each.
Stourport leapfrogged Darlaston with Saturday’s win but they have played two games more than Darlaston, in their eight fixtures so far this season they have won 5, drawn 1 and lost 2 with a goal difference of 5, whereas Darlaston have played 6, won 4 drawn 2 and have a positive goal difference of 9 and the teams are separated by just 2 points. A win tomorrow evening for Dean Gill’s side will put Darlaston back into third spot.
Following Saturday’s Isuzu FA Vase exit against Romulus and the eight changes made by the management team, Darlaston will once again enter a league fixture as total underdog’s. Darlaston’s traveling support will be hopeful of a much more “Darlaston Like” performance tomorrow night by the side of the River Severn. Almost all of Darlaston’s squad are fit and surely ready to go, and looking forward to tomorrow evening’s fixture which kicks off at 7.45 p.m.
