
Tomorrow tomorrow evening Darlaston Town travel to the opposite side of the Black Country to Lye Town for a rearranged Midland Football League Premier Division fixture. The game was rearranged to enable Lye to play their Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie against Harborough Town.
Going into tomorrow evening’s fixture Lye Town following their disjointed start to the season find themselves in mid-table in 13th position after five game with six points. So far, they have won two matches, drawing the remainder with a difference of -4.
Outside of Lye Town’s Emirates FA Cup and Vase their League started at fellow promoted Atherstone Town. But the game was a start that Lye’s squad would want to forget after they were on the end of a 3-0 loss. The second game of the League season quickly followed and trip to south Birmingham, this time to Highgate United, which ended in a second consecutive loss, 4-2 to a bright Highgate side. Both games were in early August, two weeks later on Bank Holiday Monday Lye returned to League action to record their first League win beating Uttoxeter Town away from home, the goals scored by Daniel O’Sullivan and Joseph Palmer.
Another two week break from the League in which Lye were beaten by Harborough United at home in the First Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup, allowing them to return to League action at Wolverhampton Casuals, where the secured their second League win, a Jordan Crump double followed by a Ben Billingham goal late on doubled Lye’s point total to six.
Last Saturday tomorrow’s opponents were well beaten 3-0 by Shifnal Town at the Stourbridge Road home.
Lye’s dangermen so far this season are include Joseph Palmer who has scored 4 goals, closely followed by Jordan Crump who is well known to Darlaston supporters having scored a hat-trick for OJM Black Country in the 4-4 draw at Lye’s Stourbridge Road ground. In addition, the experienced Ben Billingham not only adds to the fire power but also the creativity
Irrespective of Lye Town’s current form come the end of the season many expect them to be at the top end of the table trying for promotion. Once again Darlaston Town will need to be near the best to get anything from the game
After Saturdays 1-0 win against in the derby against Wolverhampton Casuals with an “out of sorts” and out of character performance, Manager Dean Gill and his management team will be looking for a much improved for performance from his squad tomorrow evening.
Everyone within Darlaston’s squad should be available for selection as there have been no reports of injuries sustained within Saturdays fixture the only absentee being long-term injured Andrew Nicol.
Darlaston supporters always travel to away fixtures to support the team, but with the game being reasonably local tomorrow many more are expected to make the journey across the Black Country
