Tomorrow evening, it’s the big local derby at the Paycare Stadium when Darlaston welcome EFL Division Two side Walsall for a First Round Senior Cup tie kick off 7.45 pm.

The game has been looked forward to for many months by supporters of both clubs and there has been significant interest in online ticket sales in advance of the tie, and this suggests yet another special cup night under lights at The Paycare.

In recent seasons Walsall’s success has been mixed, they reached the final in 2022/23 losing 3-1 to Rushall Olympic at Burton Albion’s ground. In the 2023/24 season they exited the competition in the quester final stage losing at Lichfield City 3-2 in a close game. Last season it was an early exit in the first round at Northern Premier League side Coleshill Town.

Meanwhile, Darlaston have only re-entered the competition in the past two seasons in their first appearance for many years in the 2023/24 season Darlaston lost the Hednesford Town 3-0 and last season The Citizens reached the final for the first time for 50 plus years losing out to Walsall’s conquerors Coleshill Town 3-1 at Chasetown at the end of last season.

The Walsall Senior Cup is one of the oldest cup competitions in the country dating back to 1878 initially created by local publicans who entered teams into the Walsall & District Association, both Darlaston and Walsall both clubs have won the competition in previous years, and a large crown is expected tomorrow evening at The Paycare Stadium
