Match Preview

Simon Cox6 Sep - 09:59

Tomorrow afternoon Darlaston have a break in league action to play their second ever Isuzu FA Trophy fixture when they travel to fellow Northern Premier League side Bedworth United.

The clubs first foray into the Isuzu FA Trophy last season ended abruptly with a 2-0 loss at the Paycare Stadium against Northern Premier League East Division side Cleethorpes Town who were promoted as champions from the East Division into the Northern Premier League at the end of last season.

Tomorrow’s opponents Bedworth United have had a difficult start to the season and are currently bottom of the Midlands Division table. The Greenbacks have not won a league fixture so far, drawing two games and losing the other three. The season started well on opening day with a 2-1 win over Brocton in The Emirates FA Cup before they lost in the Preliminary Qualifying Round to local rivals Atherstone Town a couple of weeks later. Bedworth’s two draws were at Racing Club Warwick (0-0) and Coventry Sphinx (2-2) on Bank Holiday Monday The three losses were at home to Lichfield City (1-0) and Bourne Town (2-1) and were beaten 1-0 at AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

After avoiding relegation by four points last season, Bedworth United had a management restructure during the summer. Stuart Storer who had managed the club for 12 seasons decided to consolidate his position as Head of Football at the club, leaving the remaining members of last seasons management team of Andy Penny and Jamie Lenton in charge. Over the summer months several players have joined the club including Connor Mooney and Lewis Monaghan from Racing Club Warwick. Several members of last seasons squad were retained, and along with the new signings it takes time for players to gel as we well know at Darlaston.

Ex-Darlaston Town midfielder Maxwell Ngbeken Itota is currently Bedworth’s top scorer with two goals scored in their Bank Holiday fixture local derby against Coventry Sphinx.

Darlaston, after suffering a heavy 4-1 home defeat last Saturday at the hands of Mossley, have regrouped this week, manager Dean Gill has ensured that the squad have been put through their paces thoroughly in time to prepare for tomorrow’s key fixture. After exiting the Emirates FA Cup on the opening day of the season, Darlaston will want to ensure that they win their first ever game in the Isuzu FA Trophy.

Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 3.00 p.m. and is being played at
