Tomorrow evening Darlaston Town welcome Chasetown to the Paycare Stadium for a Walsall Senior Cup Semi-Final the winners will meet Coleshill Town at the Poundland Stadium on 13th May.
Despite the clubs meeting on a regular basis in preseason friendlies, this is the first competitive game for many years between the two clubs. Darlaston have never won the Walsall Senior Cup the closest they have come is losing finalists in 1972/73 to Bilston Town who won 1-0 at the old Fellows Park. Chasetown however have won the senior cup on four occasions the last being a 4-1 went over Rushall Olympic in the 2013/14 season. Since their last win Chasetown have lost in finals against Walsall 4-3 (2014/15 season) and last season 4-1 against Russell Olympic, therefore Chasetown are bound to want to win this season‘s competition.
Chasetown having played the majority of their league football in recent years within the he Northern Premier League Midlands and Southern Divisions, but two seasons ago the FA moved The Scholars sideways into the Western Division. In their first season Chasetown finished just outside the play offs in sixth, this season is a different story, they are currently fifth with a five point buffer over sixth placed Stalybridge Celtic after 35 games of which the Scholars have won 18 drawn 7 lost 10 leaving them just five points behind second placed Hednesford Town. The Scholars recent form has produced three wins, a draw and two losses in their last six league games.
But as everyone knows in cup football recent form means nothing and despite Darlaston playing at home tomorrow they are definitely the underdogs for tomorrow’s fixture given the experience within the Chasetown squad and their experienced management’s team of playing football at this level.
The game promises to be another huge hugely special night under the lights at the Paycare Stadium, the supporters have an awfully important role in creating that special atmosphere, therefore we ask all Darlo supporters to bring friends and family to tomorrow night’s game along with the residents of Darlaston and Bentley to cheer the club on. The Citizens have a fantastic opportunity to reach a major final that everyone can enjoy at the Poundland Stadium home of EFL side Walsall on 13th May.
