Match Preview

Simon Cox14 Jan - 23:40

It looks like football will be back at the Paycare Stadium this week with the ground hosting two games inside four days.

Tomorrow evening, we welcome fellow Northern Premier League side Hednesford Town to the Paycare Stadium for a quarter-final Walsall Senior Cup Quarter Final tie, a game that has potential to be one of those very special nights under lights at the Paycare.

The clubs met twice last season in cup competitions, the second game was in the early rounds of the Walsall Senior Cup at Keys Park, Hednesford winning 3-0 after goals from Griffiths, Morley and McQuilkin. That win avenged an earlier defeat at the Paycare Stadium in August in the Emirates FA Cup, Darlaston winning 3-0 after goals from Priest, Gill and Baker.

Since the clubs last met, things have changed significantly certainly at Hednesford and following The Citizen’s promotion both clubs are playing at the same level of the NLS albeit in different Divisions. The ownership of Hednesford Town has changed and the Gwilt family are investing heavily in the club, setting foundations and improving facilities with the aim of bringing back the glory days to the Pitmen.

After recuring a new manager in Gavin Hurren and his backroom staff from Stratford Town Hurren is in the process of building his squad to move the club forward following his appointment in November last year the Pitmen have lost just twice in 12 games which has seen them climb the table into the play off places. Since the New Year the club have added three new signings, they include non-league goalkeeping legend Tony Breedon, central defender Chris Hussey and Niall Watson from American side, South Georgia Tormenta.

Games between the clubs has always produced goals and tomorrow evening promises, no different Darlaston will go into the game as massive underdogs playing against some high-quality players who have played in the professional game as well as the National League. In addition, the Pitmen have played recently whereas Darlaston have not played since Boxing Day and their squad tomorrow will contain several new players.

A large crowd is expected tomorrow evening at the Paycare Ground, we would ask everyone to arrive as early as possible to ensure that ques are kept to a minimum for car parking and at the gate

Gates 6:15 pm along with a bar that will be serving its usual pretty much hot food only

Admission Adults £9 Concession £7 Under 14s free.
