Darlaston manager Dean Gill made seven changes that drew away at league leaders Quorn FC three days earlier

Sutton Coldfield Town progressed to the Third Round of the Birmingham Senior Cup with a 2-0 home win against fellow Northern Premier League rivals Darlaston Town. An early Kai Tongue goal and a Korey Burke goal midway through the second half settled the tie.

Darlaston manager Dean Gill made seven changes that drew away at league leaders Quorn FC three days earlier. Skipper Alex Foreshaw was suspended, Joel Shambrook and Tyler Bruck cup tied whilst Lewis Gill, Aaron Bishop, Kieran Cook, Harry Chesterton and James Rowland all reverted to the bench. In came Reece Mason and Josh Jones after several months absence due to injury ad family commitments, Rivel Mardenborough, Ryan Winwood, Jack Downing and Mitch Botfield returning to the starting line up, with Oliver Sweeney a recent signing from Colehill Town making his debut.

Both sides made bright positive starts. The first clear chance coming Darlaston's way on 7 minutes, Josh Jones' incisive pass finding Mardenborough, who despite being impeded on the edge of the box, managed to get his shot off, going a yard wide of keeper James Wren's right hand post.

An excellent goal on 12 minutes gave the home side the lead. A superb defence splitting run by Kai Tongue was met with an Owen Parry slide rule pass that found Tongue who turned inside the penalty area to drive home low and hard into the net beyond Storer's outstretched left hand.

First half possession was even the pace of Birch, Tongue and Burke keeping the visitors on their toes whilst Mardenborough, Botfield and Winwood impressed for the visitors.

Chances were few and far between the best chance falling to Mardenborough who after some impressive approach work shot a yard over the bar after beating his marker.

The second half followed a similar pattern, both teams cancelling each other out and clear chances hard to come by.

Sutton doubled their lead on 66 minutes . A stray pass was intercepted on the wide left by Sutton fullback Jack Lynch. who drove forty yards up field before finding an unmarked Korey Burke on the edge of the box, to shoot home beyond the advancing Storer.

The rest of the game was played out evenly, Mardenborough denied a certain goal in the final quarter by a last minute deflection.

An evenly contested game with a deserved win for the home side..
