Darlaston Town started their pre-season campaign with a 7-0 win at West Midlands Regional League Division Two side Wombourne Allstars.
Darlaston’s new look management team fielded a mixed team of regulars and trialist over the 90 minutes. The club welcomed back James Rowland who missed the run in to last season due to a nasty groin injury, but the close season has allowed Roland to work with the medical staff allowing him to return earlier than expected.
Darlaston opened the scoring after 2 minutes Rowland slotting away an 18 yard precise finish. Harry Chesterton swept the ball into an empty net from an acute angle to double the visitors lead on 13 minutes.
Jack Downing made it 3-0 with a fine right foot finish in the 24th minute. Six minutes later a trialist finished off a good move from three yards to put Darlaston in total control leading 4-0.
The final goal of the first half two minutes before half time break, Chesterton scoring his second goal of the afternoon with a crip drive that beat the Wombourne keeper for pace.
Both management teams changed personal at half time, Darlaston giving a further three trialists the opportunity to impress.
Wombourne were more resilient in the second half, and Darlaston made many changes as the half progressed giving players valuable minutes. Two Kieran Miller goals one in the 62 minute and in the 91st minute gave Darlaston Town a 7-0 win.
Many thanks to Wombourne Allstars for looking after us so well on Saturday afternoon and all the very best for the coming season.
