Darlaston, tomorrow, welcome fellow Midland Football League Premier Division side Lichfield City for their second visit to The Paycare Stadium this season for a second round JW Hunt Cup tie.
The competition has a substantial history within the Black Country footballing community having raised in excess of £400,000 since its inception in the 1926/1927 season by John William Hunt a local businessman and the cup competition has been played every year since its inception, although not completed during the Covid years
Tomorrow evening Lichfield Town travel to The Paycare Stadium once again, the teams met back at the end of October, Darlaston winning 4-2 with a brace each from Rivel Mardenborough and Dominic Dell with Jack Edwards and Sam Fitzgerald scoring for Lichfield.
As Darlaston lay joint second in the table after their 2-1 win against Market Drayton Town on Saturday,
In the League so far this season Lichfield have played the same number of games as Darlaston but are in 9th position, 6 points behind joint second placed Darlaston having won 10 and lost 6 of their 22 games and drawn the remaining 6. Tomorrows visitors offer a huge threat to any team they play having drawn 0-0 with joint second play Shifnal Town at the beginning of December and then travelling to Northern Premier League Division side Stafford Rangers in The Staffs County Cup and ran the opposition close losing just 1-0. Prior to Christmas Lichfield welcomed Bewdley Town to their Trade Tyre Community Stadium drawing 2-2,
In the big Christmas local derby they lost out to rivals Atherstone Town 1-0, but they won in the New Year Bank Holiday game 3-1 win at home against Worcester City. Last Saturday Lichfield travelled to Studley, the game ended in stalemate at 1-1 draw, Joe Haynes equalising a Ben Welsh goal from Studley.
Top scorer for Studley currently is Luke Childs with 11 goals in 27 games, Childs offers the most goal threat with Luke Keen and Ethan Muckley on 7 goals each followed by Jack Edwards on 6.
Once again Darlaston must be at their very best if they wish to progress into the next round of The JW Hunt Cup, the last cup competition that they are in this season.
