
Saturday sees the dawn of a new season at Darlaston Town. Exciting times lie ahead for both the club and its supporters as the club starts a new competitive season with their new manager Dean Gill appointed in March, he and his team are in the process of constructing a very competitive squad which, if it continues to develop the way his team played in May, exciting times should lie ahead for Darlaston supporters as the quality of football and willingness to work for each other both and off the ball, was a joy to watch.
In addition, the Club will also look forward to playing within a new league. The Midland Football League (MFL) after a sideways move by The F.A in the National League restructure from Step 4 downwards. after the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division lost its Step 6 status. Ten other clubs have moved to the MFL Division One with Darlaston
Darlaston will play against several new clubs visiting new grounds, traveling in a very different direction towards Birmingham and Warwickshire. In saying that Darlaston have played against two of their new opponents in pre-Covid times, two trips to Atherstone Town in the J.W. Hunt Cup losing twice, along with Nuneaton Griff who were beaten 4-2 in The Birmingham County F.A. Challenge Midweek Cup quarter-final, but unfortunately the competition was cut short and the semi-final against Studley was never played.
Tomorrow is the seasons opening pre-season friendly, a big local derby against near-neighbors Tipton Town who on their last visit to The Paycare Ground in the 2018/19 season beat Darlaston at a critical stage of the season 1-0. The return match at Tipton Sports Academy ended in a 2-2 draw. Both squads have changed a lot since then, and Tipton have been successful in winning the Birmingham County FA Vase when they beat Enville Athletic in the final at Ray Hall Lane at the end of the 2018/19 season.
Tipton will no doubt have some new faces on show, they have managed to recruit ex Darlaston midfielder Jamie Holder who was an important member of the promotion winning side in the 2018-19 season, he and his family will be most welcome tomorrow. fans tomorrow will also see a new squad.
