Last night at the West Midlands (Regional) League AGM held at Tipton Sports Academy the League published their Constitution for next season and confirmed Darlaston’s opponents in Division One for this season.
The Division will once again consist of 17 teams, last year’s Champions Wem Town have been promoted into the Premier Division and Wellington Amateurs replacing them after being relegated last season.
Sikh Hunters Champions of Division Two have been promoted into our Division, both of last seasons bottom two sides Wyrley and Willenhall Town remain in the Division after receiving a reprieve from the FA in the League re-organisation.
Whilst mentioning the re-organisation we welcome to the League and the Division a new team in Droitwich Spa from the Total Motion Midlands Football League Division Two, last season they finished in third place. All their home fixtures will be played at Stourport Swifts ground close to the River Severn.
There have been some changes in where clubs play, so even though we will be playing against familiar teams, some will be at new locations. Bustleholme have moved away from Tipton Sports Academy, to play at York Road, OLDBURY, some may remember that this was Oldbury United’s old ground. Old Wulfrunians have moved to AFC Wulfrunians ground at Castlecroft. Last years Leagues runners up Newport Town have also moved to pastures new from their Shuker’s Field base to Eccleshall’s ground.
Finally, Kington Town have resigned from the League and returned back to the Hereford Premier Division, this being the only difference from the Division published by the F.A. some weeks ago.
This season will once see the F.A. control and decide promotion and regulation for all Leagues in the National League System of which includes our Division and the Premier Division of the West Midlands (Regional) League.
It was confirmed last night the season will start on Saturday 4th August and run until early May, ideally Saturday 4th May being the last game, but as we know that will very much depend on the weather through the season.
Andy Parkes and his squad started their pre-season in Mid-June, so some familiar faces will make up the squad, together with some new ones. After three hard pre-season sessions a week the players are really looking forward to the first pre-season match against Hawkins Sports on Saturday 7th July, further details regarding the fixture will be released soon.
Don’t forget the Club is open for ALL the England games doors open an hour before kick-off, and all draught beer, larger & cider is £2 a pint until the first goal is scored.
