We are extremely saddened to hear of the sudden loss of long time supporter and local Sports Photographer Pete Burke.

Pete has a long association with Darlaston Town, and there are many local photographers who have Pete to thank for their craft.

The club was notified of the sudden passing of local sports photographer Pete Burke earlier this week. Nothing is known of how and when Pete passed.

Pete has been a Darlaston supporter for many years, watching games home and away from the City Ground. After the club reformed Pete was only too happy to assist Club Photographer at that time Jayne Cartwright by covering mostly the away games that Jayne could not travel too.

Despite suffering a long period of bad health during COVID, Pete appeared to have recovered fully and was back on the touchline, not only covering Darlaston Ladies, but his beloved Walsall Rugby Club in their Centenary Year, where Pete is instrumental in recording the events of a special weekend in September. Pete had a long association with the club having played for them in his younger years, following his retirement from playing, he continued to serve as a committee member and photographer, telling the whole story of a game, not only by his action images, but those of the scoreboard and the occasion.

On a personal note, Pete has been a source of great advice at the beginning of my photographic journey and without his continued encouragement and constructive critiques I would certainly not be the photographer I am today. I will miss him greatly.

The photograph used in this article was taken at the Boldmere St. Michaels pre-season friendly the last game Pete photographed for the first team. Pete has photographed every ladies team games this season.

Once we have any further details, we will of course post any information on the club’s website and social media feeds.
