Two away games in a week is on the menu for Darlaston Town this week

Darlaston Town return to league action tomorrow evening when the club return to the M6 once again to travel north to Stafford Rangers for a rearranged Northern Premier League fixture after the original fixture was postponed on Saturday 10 January due to a frozen pitch.

The clubs met in mid August at The Paycare Stadium, Stafford Rangers winning 1-0 thanks to a Jack Birch 73rd minute goal. The win helped Stafford have a good start to the season. Form however recently has dipped, their last win was an impressive 4-0 win over Stalybridge Celtic at The Boro’s Marsten Road ground. Since then the club has slid down the table into 20th place after 28 games in which they have won six drawn six and lost 16.

Stafford Rangers have in the last six games including have lost five and picked up a point at Bury after a 2-2 draw, Kaiman Anderson equalising in the 92nd minute, this after Bury thought they had won following a Mo Touray goal in the 89th minute.

Losses came away at Avro 3-0 and at home in the big Boxing Day derby against Chasetown (2-1). Following the 6-1 reverse at Nantwich Town Neil Kitching along with his Assistant Nick Amos and coach Ian Cooper left the club. Graham Deakin who was part of the management team was aske dto take the reigns until the end of the season to be assisted by player Dan Cockerline and ex Darlo goalkeeper coach Scott Cooksey.

Deakin’s first game in charge saw a 1-0 loss at Bootle, Last Saturday The Boro were beaten at home by local Kidsgrove Athletic 3-1.

Stafford Rangers are obviously going through a transition period as Deakin bring in his style of player this will be helped by the recent announcement of investment in the club from US based George Bruneau.

Darlaston go into tomorrow night‘s fixture in reasonable form after an excellent 1-0 win over long time league leaders Lower Breck at The Paycare Stadium last Saturday. The win has seen the club pick up 10 points of clubs who have all been in the top four at the time of the games..

Players picked up knock’s and strain’s after Saturday’s game played on a heavy Paycare Stadium pitch. Manager Dean Gill may well have to juggle his squad to ensure that he has a fit 16 players available for tomorrow night’s game which is being played at
