Secretary and Director Simon Cox steps down

Neil Chambers9 Apr - 17:09

Simon has been an integral part of the club, serving the club loyally, diligently and professionally for more than 8 years.

Due to increased business and personal commitments club Secretary and Director Simon Cox has informed the club that he is stepping down from his role with immediate effect.

Simon joined the club more than 8 years ago under the reign of then manager Andy Parkes. Since then, Simon has been an integral part of the club, serving the club loyally, diligently and professionally. Not only was Simon :Club Secretary, Director, programme editor and printer but, his company Tom Giles and Co, was also a club sponsor. Under Button Oak Photography Simon was club photographer and VEO editor, taking hundreds of first class photographs at every game for the club website and programme. Despite a very busy business and personal life, Simon's commitment and dedication to the club and his roles was exemplary and second to none, always stepping in to help others and support the club when needed.

Former club Chairman Neil Chambers said " Simon is a massive loss to the club. Probably the most hard working knowledgeable and professional man I have ever met. Both at home and away games Simon was one of the first to arrive, ensuring that everything was perfect on match day. Regularly working long and unsociable hours, he represented the club with immense pride and professionalism and was very highly regarded by his peers, match officials, other club officials and the club and league secretaries.

For more than 8 years he played a pivotal role in pretty much every aspect of the club and was a massive part of the progress the club made during our rise from Step 7 to Step 4.

On a personal level our relationship was fantastic. Whilst we did not always see eye to eye on some issues - we bounced thoughts, views and opinions off each other with good humour, always having the best interests of the club and football at heart. Because of his professional approach to everything, most people did not see his wicked sense of humour and the lighter side of Simon. I did, and he was a very funny man behind the scenes.

No one person, will replace everything that Simon did. The club has lost a tremendous person and servant and both I and everyone at the club wish him well for the future"
