Rugby Town are Darlaston's final opponent's of 2024 at the Paycare Stadium tomorrow afternoon

Simon Cox20 Dec 2024 - 15:03

Dean Gill and his squad will want to sign off the year in style tomorrow afternoon.

Darlaston Town tomorrow play their last home game of, without doubt, their most successful year in their 150 year history, and what a year our 150th year has been.

Starting the year in 6th place in the MFL Premier Division, after securing promotion Darlaston find themselves ironically in the same position going into tomorrow’s game against Rugby Town, in 6th position except a step higher in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division.

Tomorrow’s opponents, Rugby Town, were the clubs first opponents in thye new league when we travelled to Rugby on 10th August, unfortunately Darlaston lost 1-0 to a Tray Charles penalty in the 55th minute.

Since that win, Rugby have found life difficult and out of twenty league games played they have won three, drawn six and lost eleven, with a -30 goal difference securing 15 points. That points total means that Rugby are currently in the relegation places sitting in 20th position, on equal points with Lye Town five points adrift from safety.

Rugby’s last six games have produced a single win over Lye Town, two draws and three losses and last Saturday evening long-term manager Carl Adams left the club. Under his guidance Rugby Town finished regularly in the top six of the United Counties League Premier South before being promoted at the end of the 2022/23 into the NPL Midlands Division.

The club have moved quickly this week and have appointed Ian King who has formally managed Southern League Premier Division sides Barwell & Coalville Town, he will be joined by former Coventry City full back Brian Burrows as his assistant and they worked together at both clubs previously.

After the extreme disappointment of Wednesdays late postponement at Anstey Nomads, Darlaston will go into tomorrow’s fixture fresh, following their 1-0 win at AFC Rushden & Diamonds last week and once again in mid-week results went their way and with three games in fourteen days, Darlaston will be looking to secure as many points as possible.

Gates and bar will open as usual tomorrow at 1.00 p.m.
The bar will be serving its usual pre-match hot and cold food.

Admission – Adults £9.00, Concessions £7.00, Under 14’s FREE

Programmes - £2.00 available from the pay hut.

As always, your support is desperately needed, especially in important games such as tomorrow. Whilst we realise it is an intense Christmas period with a massive local derby at Sporting Khalsa on Boxing Day. New Year’s Day we are back at the Paycare Stadium to play Boldmere St. Michaels.

This is a period of time where results can make the difference to a clubs season and therefore we would ask that all Darlaston supporters travel home and away during the Christmas period, not only themselves but also their family and friends. It is an ideal opportunity to extend a family Christmas into Boxing Day when going to see Darlaston play at Sporting Khalsa.

Tomorrow is absolutely no different; your support plays a huge part in the clubs success and is always honoured and admired by the players and management.

We hope to see you all tomorrow.
