Great day in memory of Leon Taylor

Great day in memory of Leon Taylor

Neil Chambers12 May - 16:25

More than 200 in attendance to remember LT9

More than 200 people attended The Paycare Stadium on Sunday to remember our former centre forward Leon Taylor who passed away more than 4 years ago. Every year since his passing, Leon's twin brother Lloyd has arranged a memorial game to ensure the great man is never forgotten. This was the first time the game has been held at the Paycare Stadium. However, Club Chairman Ant Follows confirmed to Lloyd and Leon's family in attendance that the club would be delighted to host future memorial games.

In attendance on the day was Leon's partner Kelly, his son Theo and several members of his family. Leon's daughter Tia was away celebrating her 21st birthday.

Former Darlaston players in attendance including several former team mates were Bryan Humphreys, Ant Follows, Mark Swann, Ryan McAlister, Bekir Halil, Sean Westley, Nick Lewis, Jordan Nadat, Reis Nadat, Dave Richards, Martin "Zuki" Stanton and Stephen Coyne.

The highlight of the game was a first ever goal from Leon's twin brother Lloyd in a 3-2 loss against a Pelsall Villa Colts XI.

In a packed clubhouse after the game in the aptly named LT9 Bar, Lloyd presented Leon's son Theo a framed Darlaston Number 9 shirt.

A record £2400 was raised for Leon's children.

Leon would be 40 years old this Friday.
