
The club held its second Leon Taylor Memorial Tournament, the XI a side tournament offers a new concept in pre-season football, four teams playing competitive football with the emphasis on scoring goals, every goal scored earns the team an extra point. After every team has played each other once, the top two in the table meet in the final for he trophy.
This year’s tournament saw Darlaston welcome Gornal Athletic, Tipton Town and Warstones Wanderers to the Paycare Stadium. The rain although welcome, certainly affected the attendance on the day.
The 25 minute pool games produced 15 goals, the table was led by an undefeated Gornal Athletic thanks to two wins and a 1-1 draw with Darlaston in a very competitive game, Tipton Town where is second place thanks to a 2-1 win over hosts Darlaston Town, and unlucky Warstones Wanderers finished bottom.
The final saw Gornal Athletic beat Tipton Town 2-0 to lift the Leon Taylor Memorial Trophy and become the competitions second winners after Studley last year.
Darlaston would like to thank all four clubs who took part in the day, the feedback once again was excellent, the teams certainly enjoyed the experience, The club would also like to thank all the supporters that came to support their various teams along with the match officials and the volunteers that made the day possible.
