Firstly, Grantham committee and management gave us the warmest welcome we’ve had all season, real old school football gentlemen, very humbling - thank you.
Secondly, I want to wish one of our super fans Pete Davies a quick recovery, Pete is still in Nottingham hospital following a fall last weekend and a hip operation, get well soon my mate
Yesterday was my biggest game of the season, after a few tough weeks we had to go to Grantham and get the points, not for any other reason than I wanted them and I wasn’t prepared to disrespect every other performance this season by taking our foot off the gas, I pride myself on league position hence the importance of yesterday’s win.
Yesterday we guaranteed an 8th place finish, still with the possibility of finishing 6th so we will go to the end.
I’m not going to pretend Grantham are in a good position as they most definitely aren’t, but neither were Coventry Sphinx who beat us comfortably last week, throw in all the variables on the day and I’m chuffed to bits with the win, even on our worst run of the season with only 6 points from last 6 games that form would still avoid relegation on PPG if that form continued all season long, I like that, I like that a lot.
I’m going to try and be consistent with my assessment of officiating, something seriously needs to be done, they desperately need help, they are affecting the enjoyment for everyone. We had more yellow cards than fouls committed, the referee could have blown his whistle 75% less, there wasn’t a bad word between the players or a bad tackle all day, it’s terribly sad, it was a game full of respect by both teams ruined.
Highlights for us - Poddy, Lewis, Sam Smith and Carso were all outstanding, huge praise for Sam who came in from the cold and was brilliant on the day, well done young man.
Tomorrow we host Sporting Khalsa. Ian’s side still have an outside chance of playoffs and will be wanting to keep the pressure on those above them by beating us, Ian is right up there with football’s characters - barks like a Rottweiler but anyone who knows him knows he’s a good guy who lives and breathes football and wins, I talk to him everyday so I know how he ticks and I know he’ll be looking forward to playing us, but he also knows me inside out so he knows we won’t lay down for anyone, I doubt I’ll get a pint out of him so I’ll be after a point at least.
Our support yesterday was fantastic, thank you so much.
It’s football or gardening tomorrow, hopefully we get a seasons best gate, everyone’s last chance to see the team for 3 months..

Dean.
