Dean's Weekend Review - We have to be calm and clear about what we can achieve medium and long term,

I’m sure people think I never moan or criticise my players, trust me nothing could be further from the truth

Firstly, credit to Bedworth who won a very competitive game, I appreciate the welcome all my staff received from the Bedworth management - well done on the win and thank you for the hospitality.

I’m sure people think I never moan or criticise my players and that I put a positive slant on everything, trust me nothing could be further from the truth, my team are smart enough to know what good looks like and don’t need me to rant and rave at them getting all emotional, when in reality I’m only making myself feel better by losing perspective and control.

Up until Bedworth scored we’d done everything we set out to do and were deservedly winning again away from home, but because we conceded 3 quick goals to at least two of our own mistakes does that mean we were poor on the day? Not a chance, get a grip, my lads aren’t robots they make mistakes and whether we like it or not Bedworth, like Corby and Wellingborough, have a say in the result also. I watch and listen to 99% of managers, supporters etc. - they blame players, pitches, referees - virtually anything but themselves when they lose, that won’t ever be us, we did what we set out to do and lost, it happens, I don’t like it but I’m not chatting rubbish, finding excuses.

There’s nothing that happened yesterday that I have an issue with, I could talk for an hour about the things we did well yesterday, and how the referee made the biggest mistake of the day but nobody is interested in that when we lose are they? Football is all about results right? Maybe.

Fortunately, for me results come second at the moment in what we’re trying to develop, from the foundations up. We have to be calm and clear about what we can achieve medium and long term, making sure that short term we’re doing enough to stay in the league. Tonight, we’re 13 points above relegation and one point out of the playoffs, I’m happy we’re building correctly, I only want to build once and I believe we’re doing exactly that - we’re already twice the team we were on 4th May when we were promoted, something I didn’t dream was possible.

Positives on the day were all our four defenders, although Alex and Pod have moaned at me all week about their injuries they were both top draw yesterday when only 50% fit at most and Joel and Chez were very good again.

Lewis and Ryan were excellent and couldn't have given an ounce more.

We have a week now to rest up and prepare for three great games in a week against Long Eaton, Ansty and Quorn - what a great time to be at Darlaston

Have a lovely week.

UTD

Dean
