Tomorrow Darlaston Town will bring the curtain down on their first league season in Step 4 of the NLS and irrespective of tomorrow’s result at Hinckley Leicester Road, Darlaston have had a brilliant season and will finish in 7th place, but the club and its supporters still has another game to look forward to in just over two weeks’ time the Walsall Senior Cup Final at Bescot
For the final time Darlaston will travel south on the M6 Hinckley LR who are currently in 10th place but are in good form with four wins out of their last six games. Last Saturday they suffered a 4-0 loss to promotion hopefuls and third placed Anstey Nomads.
Hinckley Leicester Road are a relatively new club having changed their name to from Leicester Road during Covid in their first season back 2021/22 they gained promotion by finishing runners up in the United Counties League joining the Northern Premier League the season after.
Last season, their second in the Northern Premier League saw them qualify for the play-offs with a 4th place finish losing out to Harborough Town (who Darlaston supporters know only too well having lost to them in this seasons Emirates FA Cup) in the play-off semi-finals drew 1-1 at Harborough Town but lost on penalties 4-2 to end their season.
This season Hinckley have found life a little bit more difficult, currently in mid-table and of their thirty-nine matches this season they have won fourteen, drawn ten and lost fifteen.
The clubs met at The Paycare Stadium back on Bank Holiday Saturday, Darlaston winning 4-0 with James Roland scoring a brace along with Jake Pearson and Tyler Brooke.
Hinckley throughout the season have had a very settled squad, only using twenty-three players throughout the season. Liam Reid is currently top scorer with 14 goals, followed by Michael Armstrong on 12 and Dom Brennan with 10.
Many people thought that Darlaston’s two quick promotions may be a step too far, but certainly Dean Gill and the players have proved their doubters completely wrong with a very competitive and hugely successful season playing, not only at theirs but also the clubs highest level in non-league football. The end of the league campaign tomorrow will see preparation and works start in readiness for next season, either in The Midlands Division of the Northern Premier League or if the club is moved laterally as many people think, into the Western Division. All clubs should know the allocations sometime during mid-late May.
Tomorrow’s game is being played at:
Hinckley LR
Leicester Road Stadium
Leicester Road
HINCKLEY
LE10 3DR
There have been no communications regarding admission charges for tomorrow’s fixture and from information obtained from the club’s website it would appear that Adult entrance is £10.00, Concessions £7.00, Under 18’s £3.50 and Under 12’s £2.00
We hope many Darlaston supporters will make the final away trip of the league season and look forward to seeing you all tomorrow at Hinckley.
