The club are delighted to welcome ex Shrewsbury Town and Newport AFC midfielder James Rowland.

Darlaston Town are delighted to announce their first signing for the new season, please welcome to the club James Rowland.

Rowland joins Darlaston with some pedigree after playing both for West Bromwich Albion and Shrewsbury Town in youth football before signing a two-year full time professional contract at Shrewsbury where he made several first team appearances.

After leaving Shrewsbury Town, in May 2021 James joined Newport AFC who play in the JD Cymru Premier, playing more than 20 games for the Welsh club including two in the UEFA Europa Conference League Qualifiers against Irish side Dundalk. Rowland finished the season playing for Barwell in the Southern League Premier Division after ending his time in Wales in January 2022.

The 5’5’’ central midfield player arrives with a fearless reputation, a player who has a great engine for getting around the pitch, who works exceptionally hard for his teammates by his desire and willingness to influence games and his teammates.

On securing his first new signing of the season Manager Dean Gill said “In a close season like no other I can remember, I’m intent on doing the right business not just lots of business, I’m steadfast in the belief I’m not getting into auctions with clubs and managers who are simply playing non-league football manager, running around talking to 60 or 70 players promising what can’t be delivered sustainably.

My way is far from perfect, but it’s served me ok up to yet and I won’t change for anything or anyone.

I tried to sign James this time last season and unfortunately it didn’t come off, we stayed in touch and it’s great for Darlaston he has chosen to join us for the season coming. He’s got a great pedigree however the football graveyard is full of young lads with great pedigree, it’s now time for James to show what a top player he is and my staff and I to motivate him to do so - Welcome James.”
