Tomorrow Darlaston will have one of their longest trips of the season, when they travel to second place Corby Town for an important Northern Premier League fixture.
Corby have been in second place for the majority of the season behind Quornand are in great form having won four of their last six games, just losing twice. The Steelman’s two losses were at league leaders Quorn 3-0 and in-form and fast charging Long Eaton where Corby lost 3-2.
Their four wins have come at home against Bedworth United 1-0, followed by a win by the same scoreline over promotion chasing Anstey Nomad. After losing to Quorn, the Steelmen secured a midweek 4-0 win at Coventry Sphinx Fletcher Toll scoring a hat-trick and last Saturday a 99th minute winner from Tendi Dare at Shepshed Dynamo earned Corby a valuable 3 points.
The squad has been strengthened this week by the addition of Wellingborough Town midfielder Gary Stohrer who played 8 years for Kettering Town mostly in the National League. Stohrer played his last game for his previous club last Saturday at the Paycare Stadium.
Top scorer for both Corby Town and the Division is forward Fletcher Toll with twenty-one goals followed by Ruban Marshall on five goals and two further players on four Callum Milne and Matthew Slinn.
When the clubs met at the Paycare Stadium at the end of October, Darlaston suffered at 4-1 defeat after Darlaston had taken the lead in the 18th minute through a James Roland penalty, but Neo Dobson, Ruban Marshall and a Fletcher Toll brace took the points back to Corby.
Darlaston have had a good week training twice after last Saturday’s draw at the Paycare Stadium against promotion chasing Wellingborough Town and Manager Dean Gill will be looking to juggle his squad taking into consideration injuries and availability to ensure that the best team is selected for tomorrow’s game.
