Darlaston suffer away defeat

Darlaston suffer away defeat

Neil Chambers

A single deflected goal 5 minutes from time settled the game

Firstly massive thanks to Stockport Georgians. A magnificent playing surface and a lovely group of hospitable officials and supporters.

With manager Adam "Savo" Pearce departing less than 24 hours earlier Interim manager Mark Swann took charge for the long trip to Stockport Georgians.

Swann made three changes from the side that lost in midweek at Coventry Copsewood. With Georgians unbeaten in three games, including a 6-1 win against Stone Old Alleynians, Darlaston needed a much improved performance from the side that lost at Copsewood.

With Ezekiel Agyemang, Nigel Hinkulow and Ceesa Musay unavailable, Swann made three changes to the starting line-up. Jordan Spragg returning after suspension and holiday, Tyrike Burke Richards returning to the line up together with Fin Douglas.

The performance compared to midweek was chalk and cheese. Following their poor midweek performance, Darlaston looked a completely different outfit. they dominated for long spells and saw chance after chance go begging. If only they had their shooting boots on a different outcome could have easily been achieved.

The first half, was quite superb, the effort, work rate and quality was superb, every player giving all for the cause. Spragg and Hayden Seymour were excellent at the heart of the defence whilst Oliver Jeeves, Jack Sang and Douglas gave the home defence a torrid time.

As is often the case when you are down the luck is not on your side. After a superb first half performance with chances galore missed, the same was evident in the second half, which was more competitive but Darlaston remained on top.

For the final 20 minutes Swann gave a substitute debut to youth team player Leon Bennett who quickly acclimatised to the pace and quality of the game.

The visitors were to rue their missed chances as Georgians grabbed a winner 5 minutes from time. Carl Pendlebury scoring from close range as the ball was deflected into his path.

Despite the devastating loss the travelling supporters were unanimous in their view that it was the best 90 minutes performance of the season.
