Darlaston go down in Derby day defeat

Darlaston go down in Derby day defeat

Neil Chambers7 Apr - 09:05

A single Chay Tilt goal separates the two teams

Darlaston were all but condemned to relegation following defeat against local rivals Sporting Khalsa. Only a miracle will save the Citizens as they will need to win all four remaining games and turn around a 27 goal, goal difference to have a remote chance of retaining their Step 4 status.

A crowd of 221 witnessed a tense affair with both sides desperate for the win to help ease their relegation fears.

Khalsa made the better start and had the best of the first half. Andre Landell and Daniel Gyasi were lively up front. Landell squandering an early chance shooting wide from 8 yards with only keeper Tom Beeby to beat.

Midfielder Kieran Whittaker was pulling the strings for Khalsa and two 25 yards efforts brought good saves from Beeby. Beeby injuring himself in the process , restricting his kicking and movement for the rest of the game.

The only goal of the game came on 41 minutes. Chay Tilt calmly slotting home from 12 yards beyond the outstretched leg of Beeby.

The half time introduction of Koby Arthur to the Darlaston midfield, gave the home side more poise and control but the opening 20 minutes of the 2nd half was a pretty dour affair. As the game entered the final quarter it opened up more chances falling to both sides.

Tilt and Landell missing half chances for the visitors. The home side pushing for the equaliser saw Darboe and Sutherland have long range efforts, both off target.

As the game entered the final quarter Taylor and Spragg both went close with headers, but Khalsa ran out worthy winners.
