Darlaston face a massive test at Wolverhampton Casuals tomorrow

Darlaston face a massive test at Wolverhampton Casuals tomorrow

Darlaston to travel across Wolverhampton to face promotion hopefuls Wolverhampton Casuals

Tomorrow Darlaston travel to Wolverhampton Casuals for the first of two back to back away games.

Dean Gill’s Casuals side have had a stuttering start to their League season, having only played three games, against Darlaston’s five. This has been due to FA Cup and FA Vase cup games. This is one of the prime reasons why managers never really look at League tables at this time of the season because teams are always in false positions, because of the cup competitions.

Promotion chasing Casuals are currently in mid table in ninth position having drawn the first two of their three opening games, securing a 1-0 win against Darlaston’s opening weekend opponents Pershore Town at Brinsford Stadium.

This season is Dean Gill’s second at the helm after leaving Wednesfield at the end of the 2017-18 season, this after winning the Division One championship in 2016-17 and promotion in the Premier Division and finishing a very credible fifth in their first season. Gill resigned but was back in employment shortly after following his appointment at Wolverhampton Casuals taking many of the players from Wednesfield along with his trusted backroom staff.

In Gills first season at the helm, Casuals finished third five points behind promoted Haughmond in second place and nine behind champions Tividale, so they must be favourites to gain promotion at the end of this season by occupying one of the four promotion places that are available.

As mentioned earlier Wolverhampton Casuals August, has seen them play in three competitions. On opening weekend Shawbury came to Brinsford Stadium, a goalless draw the result.

The following Saturday a trip to Midland League Premier Division side Romulus saw a second goalless draw and a reply at Casuals the following Tuesday evening, which after extra time saw Romulus proceed into the next round winning 2-1 Todd Ferrier scoring Casuals goal. Lewis Gill was sent off for two yellow cards late on.

Follows the FA Cup exit Dean Gill arranged for last seasons top scorer Kieron Miller to return to the club after leaving to step up a level at Lye Town. Miller last season scored 40 goals in the West Mids Prem, so much of the same would be expected once again this season

Wolverhampton Casuals returned back to League action the following Saturday, which saw the third 0-0 draw on the third Saturday of the season, despite Miller starting the game, although he didn’t finish it after receiving a straight Red Card and a three-game suspension. Today sees the last game of the suspension, s he will be missing from their squad.

On Bank holiday weekend Gill’s men recorded their first win of the season, beating fellow promotion favourites Pershore Town 1-0, the goal scored by Kieran Cook in injury time at the end of the first half.

Last weekend it was back to cup action in the FA Vase, against Premier Division rivals Bilston Town in the first qualifying round Kyle Brady scoring both goals, one in each half in a 2-1 win allowing them to progress into the second qualifying round where they face at trip to Lichfield City.

I say this every week what a tuff fixture this will be to get anything out of, lets face it there are no easy games, no certain wins, so perhaps I should stop saying it.

Despite Darlaston’s two recent impressive results they go into tomorrows games as complete underdogs given Casuals pedigree and experience at playing at this level in the Premier Division. Mark my words they will be up at the top of the table come the end of the season, looking to make that step up into the Midland Premier League, something the whole club has worked very hard to achieve.

Meanwhile at Darlaston it has been a usual week, two training sessions at which the lads once again have worked their “socks off” in readiness for tomorrows local derby. Manager Parkes is back from his spell abroad and will take the reigns tomorrow after Ant Follows and Nick Lewis guided his squad to a 4-0 win against Black Country Rangers.

Several of the squad are carrying knocks, missing will be long term injured absentees Andy Heal, Tyrone Clarke-O’Connell. T.J. Davies looks to be getting back to fitness after his hamstring strain and Morgan Campbell is back after picking up an ankle injury in his impressive debut at Pershore Town. Returning will be Ryan Jones and Aiden Blackham who were both unavailable last Saturday

So, Parkes will have virtually a full squad to choose his sixteen for tomorrows fixture.

The Cassies bar will be open along with Queen Bee Bev who will be serving hot snacks and drinks.

Entrance is £5 for adults, concessions £3 and children £1

Kick-off is 3 pm and the full address of Wolverhampton Casuals Brinsford Stadium is Brinsford Road, Coven, WOLVERHAMPTON, WV10 7PR.

So why not come and support the lad is what is an important game for many reasons
