I am sure many of you know Darlaston Town (1874) FC Goal Keeping Coach Shaun Bolton. Shaun’s wife Jamie Leigh gave birth to their first child Vinnie Bolton on 9th August this year.
What many of you don’t know Vinnie is disabled. Following the birth Vinnie was diagnosed with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) which is a form of brain damage, this occurs when an infant's brain doesn't receive enough oxygen and blood. It is a dangerous condition that requires immediate medical intervention. There are three grades of the condition Grade 1 mild, Grade 2 moderate, Grade 3 severe. Vinnie has been diagnosed with a Grade 3 condition.
On top of HIE, Vinnie also has Cerebral Palsy.
Whilst the family were in the Neonatal Unit at New Cross Hospital (part of The Royal Wolverhampton Trust) for a considerable time following Vinnies birth. He received some cooling treatment supplied by a special mattress, the Neonatal Unit only has one of these. If it had not been available Vinnie would have been sent to Liverpool who had next closest one available.
Also, whilst in hospital Vinnie became more alert he responded to and loved lights and music, the Neonatal Unit does not have any sensory toys or even a Sensory Room.
Shaun and Jamie-Leigh want to raise money for the Neonatal Unit at New Cross Hospital, to provide a second cooling mattress and also to provide sensory toys at least or build a sensory room.
This will take a lot of money, since the middle of September they have both been contacting local and well know businesses for donations for an Auction that is taking place THIS SATURDAY 2nd December at
