Darlaston took advantage of a hastily arranged last-minute friendly after being let down on Friday

Saturday afternoon Darlaston town 1874 played a hastily arranged friendly against new West Midland Regional League Division Two side Bilbrook Santos at a school in Fordhouses Wolverhampton

The match allowed Nick Lewis to once again reassess his squad bolstered by the return from injury of Lucas Hough and Dan Cresswell. Three trialists started the game as Lewis was looking to see if they would add to his squad.

The match was played on a small-sided pitch which was extremely bumpy and uneven making a passing game very difficult at times, especially in the central areas.

Darlaston opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a wonder goal, 45 yards out from just inside his opponents half, recently signed Josh Watters outstanding driven shot found the top right-hand corner of the net this was no fluke, this after Bilbrook had started the better of the two teams

As the first half wore on Darlaston’s took control of the game and never looked back, trying to get to grips with the pitch, playing football at every opportunity. The lead was doubled in the latter stages of the half Aaron Grewal scoring his also his first for the club the header following a corner.

Although Darlaston went into the half time interval two goals to the good, the visitor's performance was not what manager Nick Lewis was looking for.

A change of tactics instigated during the half time interval saw Darlaston switch the focus of their attacks onto the flanks which paid dividends.

In the 63rd minute, Zico Agyemang scored his first of the afternoon after coming on as a half time substitute following a great run down Darl's right, the ball was cut back for Agyemang to smash the ball in from 8 yards out giving Bilbrooks keeper no chance.

Despite being in total control the visitors had to wait until the 79th minute for their fourth goal of the afternoon. This time it was Agyemang who beat two defenders before, after reaching the by-line his pull back was finished by a trialist with aplomb giving the luckless home keeper no chance.

Darlaston's fifth and final goal of the afternoon came in the 83rd minute, Agyemang adding his second of the game after a 15 yard run behind the static Bilbrook defence he kept his cool passing the ball past the keeper into the empty net

Darlaston’s pre-season is now finished and will and have two training sessions to prepare the squad for next Saturdays opening competitive game when the club plays its first game in the FA Vase against Step 5 Midlands League Premier Division side Heather St. John at the Paycare Ground kick-off 3 pm
