Speedster Sarah Lojko scores five goals in a 7-1 convincing win over Chelmsley Colts Ladies

Darlaston Ladies last Sunday travelled to Chelmsley Colts Ladies for this weekend’s round of Covid Cup fixtures.

After issues with availability in their last game, the Ladies welcomed missing players back to the fold. Darlaston started the game strongly and passed the ball well from back to front from the kick-off. It took just 5 minutes for Beth Arrowsmith to open the scoring with what is fast becoming her trademark, a goal from distance this time a free-kick to give the visitors a great start.

Darlo continued to press and dominated possession and just 10 minutes later added a second Drew Harris scored off a rebound from Lojko’s shot to make it 2-0. After the second goal the Ladies appeared to relax and looked clearly in the mood for more goals, Laura Avery threaded a through ball behind the Chelmsley defence for speedster Sarah Lojko to make it 3-0, this after just 25 minutes.

The best goal of the game came from a passing master class with two touch passing across the midfield and a clever one-two between Alexander and Arrowsmith who crossed the ball to striker Lojko who scored her second of the game after 35 minutes. 4-0 to Darlaston. The goals continued to come with Lojko netting twice more before half time break to put the League Leaders 6-0 at the break.

The second half started much like the first, with Darlo in control. The Ladies continued to work the ball around the Chelmsley defence with precise passing, that and striker Lojko’s movement allowing her to score a seventh goal of the game in the opening minutes of the second half Sarah's fifth meant her season goal total in 12 League & Cup games now stands at 20.

The scoreline meant Darlo could work on playing it out from the back and keep possession relying on the movement of players off the ball. The ladies were unfortunate to concede towards the end of the game to make it 7-1 at full time.

The girls were brilliant all over the pitch today and passed the ball better than they have all season.

Player of the match was given to Sarah Lojko for five excellent goals.

Darlaston return to the Paycare Ground next Sunday when they welcome pointless Rubery Juniors Ravens Women for their last game behind closed doors.
