Despite the 7.45 kick off the heat and humidity was evident and both teams came out of the game with great credit as their work rates in such conditions was excellent.
With the backing of a vociferous travelling support Darlaston had the edge early on with Danny Mayne, Scott Broadway and Leon Taylor forming a strong forward line which kept the visitors defence occupied. The best chance falling to Mayne who struck the foot of the post with his 22 yard shot.
Wrens Nest impressed with normally prolific striker Stuart Hillman looking comfortable in his defensive role at the heart of the defence. Rushall Olympic loanee Bradley Maslen Jones was impressive for the home side and had two half chances which failed to trouble Darlaston keeper Aaron Morris.
The deadlock was broken in the 40th minute when Mason Hodgson combined with full back Sam Causton, Causton's superb right wing cross was met with a deft glancing header from Leon Taylor giving home keeper Joe Gilbert no chance.
Darlaston opened the second half strongly and doubled their lead 4 minutes into the second period, Taylor netting his second of the evening shooting home from 6 yards after a goalmouth melee.
The arrears were reduced in the 62nd minute when Maslen Jones converted a the back post following a Jack Martin cross across the 6 yard box which eluded the visitors static defence.
As the game entered the final 20 minutes Taylor had three chances to settle the game but keeper Gilbert was quickly off his line on each occasion to deny the striker his hat trick with smart blocking saves.
Darlaston saw out the game to finish their season on a winning note.
