Yet another average performance from Manager Parkes squad is this time punished by promotion rivals

Darlaston's faint hopes of finishing in the top two were all but extinguished as they fell to defeat at the hands of local rivals Team Dudley.

The home side made the better start and took a 10th minute lead , former Darlaston striker Chris Knight setting up Vlad Lungu to curl a superb left footed 25 yard shot into the top corner giving keeper Aaron Morris no chance.

The home side had the better of the early exchanges, Darlaston eventually easing their way back into the game, the equaliser coming in the 21st minute courtesy of a Martin Stanton 15 yard strike after the home side failed to clear a Sam Giles corner. Two minutes later Stanton headed home a Tyrone Clarke O'Connell cross only to be denied by a dubious offside flag.

Both sides were playing controlled football with Knight looking a threat every time he was on the ball whilst young centre half Dan Turton was superb at the heart of the home defence sniffing out the dangerous Danny Mayne and Leon Taylor.

Home keeper Josh Rogers saved from Lucas Hough whilst Mayne blazed the ball over the bar from the edge of the box. In response Alex Pinches had two half chances for the home side, Morris saving his first attempt and a minute later Ryan Jones averted the danger with an excellent blocking tackle.

A moment of madness cost Darlaston dearly a minute before the break. An Alex Smith pass into no man's land saw keeper Morris race 30 yards from his line but as he charged from his line, Knight beat him to the ball and slotted home from 20 yards despite a despairing effort from Stanton to clear the danger.

Darlaston made a much better start to the second half and were quickly on level terms. Lucas Hough converting a 25 yard free kick following a foul by Alex Smith on Stanton. The visitors were on top for a short spell and thought they had taken the lead in the 51st minute when a goalmouth scramble saw Hough force the ball over the line but both referee and linesman waive play on.

On 58 minutes Morris atoned for his earlier mistake making an excellent double save from close range to deny Lungu. Clarke hit the post for the home side before Myles Nettleford and Clarke both missed opportunities to put the home side in the lead for a third time.

On 64 minutes Darlaston's penalty appeals for a foul on Leon Taylor were turned down whilst the home side also thought they deserved a penalty when Nettleford went down in the box.

Darlaston were again playing catch up in the 67th minute. Knight who had been a thorn in the visitors side all night was on hand to net his second goal steering home an Alex Pinches free kick with the deftest of touches from 6 yards.

Taylor was denied a certain equaliser on 70 minutes by a superb last ditch block by Turton . Darlaston were to rue their missed chance as 3 minutes later another mistake saw the home side extend their lead. An attempted clearance by Morris fell to the feet of Clarke who easily converted from 30 yards into an empty net with Morris stranded.

As Darlaston's energy levels fell, the home side grew in confidence and the scoreline was given a flattering look seconds before the final whistle. Knight was again the instigator as he found space on the left his astute flick finding Lungo unmarked at the far post to easily convert with a 4 yard header.

Darlaston's next game is at The Paycare Ground this coming Saturday against seven game unbeaten Wrens Nest kick off is 3 pm.
