Another draw sees Darlaston drop out of the Division's top five

Darlaston concluded their 2017/18 home programme with a 2-2 draw against Kington Town in an evenly contested game .

Dave Richards returned to the starting line up after missing four games through injury , top scorer Scott Broadway was unavailable through injury and Kieron Payne returned to the back four. Danny Mayne dropped to the bench leaving Leon Taylor to plough a lone furrow up front.

The home side got off to a dream start in the opening 90 seconds when Tyrone Clarke O'Connell burst past Lucas Leech to send in a left wing cross which found Zuki Stanton to steal in at the back post with the opening goal from 6 yards.

The goal stunned the visitors into life and they were back on level terms in the 5th minute when Sam Pearson pounced on a rebound off keeper Aaron Morris to score easily.

Clarke O'Connell was seeing a lot of the ball on the left flank, his speed and trickery giving full back Leech a torrid time , on 3 occasions his crosses failed by inches to find Leon Taylor and Sam Giles whilst keeper Tom Lewis made two good interceptions to thwart the danger. unfortunately for the home side the impressive Clarke O'Connell picked up an injury in the 20th minute and was replaced by substitute Mayne.

Brian Dyer and Ryan Nicholas were impressive at the heart of the Kington defence whilst Pearson and Jake Robinson both had half chances comfortably saved by Morris in the home goal.

On 25 minutes a deep left wing cross by Sam Giles found Luke Charlton whose 6 yard header hit keeper Lewis. rebounding for a corner.

Both sides were impressive in their approach play but the final pass or ball into the box was lacking and clear chances were hard to come by, The home side were within inches of restoring their lead in the 39 minute when a Giles corner looked as though it was going directly into goal before Lewis Hughes intervened with a header off the goal line.

The sides went into the half time interval level which was a fair reflection of the game.

The visitors made a strong start to the second half and went ahead in the 51st minute Sam Pearson again on target. The game reached boiling point minutes later when Richards shot over the bar but was caught late by Brian Dyer. Whilst Richards was on the ground it appeared that Hughes was guilty of a stamp which Richards reacted to strongly with a melee ensuing between several players. Dyer and Richards both picked up injuries and had to leave the field of play. 16 year old Sam Lynex replacing Richards.

Lynex was immediately in action with a 16 yard angled drive which was saved by the outstretched leg of keeper Lewis. The game then turned into a midfield battle with Lucas Hough and Charlton for Darlaston and Connor Bufton and Lewis Phillips for the visitors cancelling each other out as both sides failed to create any clear chances.

The home side were back on level terms in the 70th minute when Taylor and Charlton combined to set up Danny Mayne who angled his 10 yard shot beyond keeper Lewis.

The goal spurred on the home side as they pushed for the winner Taylor, Mayne and Lynex all having difficult chances to net the 3 points however it was the visitors who had a great chance to restore their lead, In the 82nd minute a stray pass into midfield was picked up by Phillips and with 3 Kington players bearing down on the home goal home keeper Aaron Morris came to the rescue to thwart the danger making an excellent save with his legs.

Darlaston finished strongly but despite some good forward play from Mayne and Taylor they simply could not break down a well marshalled and solid Kington defence.

Next Saturday sees Darlaston travel the small distance to the Cottage to meet local rivals Willenhall Town at Amos Lane Wednesfield KO 3.00pm
