Darlaston see off local rivals with convincing performance

With both teams in good form and separated by just 3 points a tight game was expected but Darlaston were in rampant form and ran out easy winners recording their biggest win of the season. Manager Andy Parkes was forced into two late changes with the Division's top scorer Scott Broadway taken ill, allowing Captain Ryan McAllister to return to the starting line-up. Keeper Aaron Morris picking up a thigh injury in the warm up giving 16 year old keeper Ryan Lees-Stevens his League debut.

The opening exchanges were even but Darlaston quickly began to assert their authority, Leon Taylor putting a header wide and then both Taylor and Dave Richards had shots blocked by Ian Beavon and James Messenger respectively. Midfielder Dan Wood was impressive for the visitors setting up long range efforts for Jack Whittall and Michael Miller but debutant keeper Lees-Stevens was up to the task saving well on both occasions.

Sam Giles and Tyrone Clarke O'Connell were again using their speed and trickery on the flanks and Giles was within inches of opening the scoring on 21 minutes. A superb four man move saw Clarke O'Connell's left wing cross met by a diving header from Giles but unfortunately the midfielder could not quite direct his 6 yard header on target.

Despite their early domination Darlaston fell behind to a sucker punch on 23 minutes. Poor defensive player by the home side on 23 minutes leaving Jack Whittall in plenty of space 30 yards out, the striker breaking clear to slip the ball beyond the advancing Lees-Stevens to give the visitors the lead. Darlaston responded superbly and were back on level terms within 7 minutes. Full back Ryan Jones and Clarke O'Connell exchanged passes, Jones' deft pass setting up Clarke O'Connell to score from close range.

Darlaston were now on top with Bustleholme keeper Simon Charles seeing plenty of action, bringing off fine saves from Clarke O'Connell and Lucas Hough to keep his side on level terms. The visitors responded with Lees Stevens saving from Jason Nettleford but this was rare Bustleholme attack as Clarke O'Connell and Hough missed opportunities to put their team ahead on 36 and 37 minutes. The pressure on the Bustleholme defence was incessant and it was only a matter of time before Darlaston went ahead. It was the impressive Sam Giles who did so on 40 minutes combining with Lucas Hough on the edge of the box before unleashing a 18 yard drive giving keeper Charles no chance.

Early in the second half it was clear Darlaston were in charge increasing their lead after 57 minutes Sam Giles scoring his second of the afternoon after yet another poor clearance the ball fell to Giles who drilled home from 16 yards. Two minutes later the game was over as a contest as Darlaston pressed home their dominance with a fourth goal Lucas Hough heading home a pin-point Clarke-O’Connell cross after good work from Dave Richards.

Bustleholme were finding life very difficult as they could not contain Darlaston’s wide men along with the movement of the hard-working midfield trio.

Darlaston’s 16-year-old debutant keeper pulled off and outstanding save to deny Bustleholme’s captain Daniel Wood after a fine move Wood’s headed effort was pushed over the bar at full stretch by Lees-Stevens after 63 minutes. That was the end of Bustleholme's attacking threat as the final 30 minutes saw Darlaston create chance after chance to press home their superiority, the home were continually creating chances and wasting them, Clarke-O’Connell shooting over from 3 yards, Leon Taylor missing three golden opportunities that looked easier to score than miss before finally getting his goal on 72 minutes , Taylor beating the Bustleholme high line after 72 minutes to breakthrough and score Darlaston’s fifth after yet another outstanding pass from the defence this time from Martin Stanton. Tyrone Clarke O’Connell scored his second and Darlaston’s sixth, four minutes later on 76 minutes after the ball had ricocheted around in the Bustleholme area.

Manager Andy Parkes brought on 16 year old Mason Hodgson for Lucas Hough and 17 year old Addy Allen for forward Leon Taylor, leaving Darlaston Town to see out the game with three players under the age of eighteen on the pitch.

A fine performance by Managers Parkes team running out 6-1 winners meaning they are now unbeaten for three games picking up seven points from nine against teams in the top half of the table following the home draw against Team Dudley and a fine win at Worcester Raiders.

On Saturday Darlaston are looking to extend that run to four games against a confident Bromyard Town who come to the Paycare Ground on the back of a 5-1 win against Telford Juniors and with three wins in their last four games. The game is at The Paycare Ground. Bentley Leisure Pavilion, Bentley Road North, Bentley Walsall WS2 OEA Kick Off 2.00 pm.
